Livre superbe, écrit par un génie avec une pédagogie hors commun. Je ne peux que recommander ce livre pour les personnes qui sont intéressées par notre univers et bien plus.

I can't praise this book enough. Although at times I had to read a few paragraphs more than once, I've been well rewarded for the effort. It is clear and conversational in tone, but at the same time delivers the science in concise and accurate doses (even when the science is not all that clear in itself). I confess to tuning-out to "string theory", but perhaps at a later time I'll give it another look. Highly recommended for any non-scientist who wants to get a feel for what those scientific-theorist are proposing as the present state of our understanding of the universe.
Been on my nightstand for a month. A delightful and informative guided tour from the smallest to the biggest: string theory to beyond the observable universe. Not dry and no math. I'm gonna read it again.
Galfard uses lay terms to present simultaneously simple, yet challenging, even contradictory theoretical constructs of the physical realities of our universe. He explains laws of nature that logically and mathematically change as one moves from the very large to the very, very small and the very fast. He makes the important point that that a theory of physics, such as Newton’s or Einstein’s doesn’t have to be a theory “of everything†to be “perfect†or of great value to the endeavor of expanding human knowledge and understanding. But that if a theory of physics serves as a solid stepping stone to seeing further and formulating new questions that probe more deeply, then it has a kind of beauty and integrity that is as much as we can ask for from the great thinkers and imaginers of our time.
I liked this book, but to me, it felt like sometimes he finds the perfect way for simple mortals to understand things by comparing them to something or by creating scenarios that help you understand the concepts. However, sometimes it felt, TO ME, like he didn't do what I mentioned before and just presented the idea as if a physicist was reading it and I was like "What?!", lol. Maybe I'm just dumb and helpless, but I like to read and learn, which I did. :)
An excellent overview of what know and what we don't know so far about our universe (Galfard is totally upfront about how no one, even those with the mathematical chops to predict its behavior, actually yet understands quantum physics, so don't feel bad about being confused - it's confusing to everyone). His conceit of the reader's direct participation in exploring the universe may seem corny at first but does carry one through the book quite gracefully. Anyone with curiosity will enjoy the read.
